Mitsui & Co. (Tokyo) said today that it has reached an agreement to invest in Ceva Santé Animale (Libourne, France), a global animal health company. Mitsui says the deal marks the company’s entry into the animal health industry. The company declines to say what percentage holding it is acquiring. Ceva specializes in R&D, production, and marketing of veterinary pharmaceutical products for both livestock and companion animals and has established business in more than 110 countries.

The global animal health market is estimated at $30 billion/year and covers the fast-growing demand for protein, the fight against animal diseases transmissible to humans, and the increasing number of companion animals.
